Business Strategy Thoughts — Startup Edition

1 min readOct 13, 2024

Shall I focus on growing the business through quick wins, or focus on building something much larger than that — a whole base and full-fat milk, program?

I’ve just finished an initial consultation call with a high school senior’s mom looking for help on her child’s senior college application. She’s willing to pay $150–200 for an essay review. It’ll be more money and I can create the impact right away.

Should I do that? Or should I do the mentorship marketplace?

I’m thinking that I start small and grow big.

I need to build up a portfolio of client wins.

I don’t need to raise money like a SaaS startup.

I want to make the money. See the bank account grow. Have an impact on getting people into top universities. Delight the customer.

And with the main purpose of growing a business, starting a business, and learning about building a business from scratch — now that is exciting and what is the true importance of these ventures right now.

Let’s build!
